MCH’s Toddler Program is for children who begin around the age of 2/2.5.

The toddler stage is a period of spectacularly rapid development. Toddler aged children are fascinated by everything in the world around them, and their experiences at MCH give them the opportunity to explore, expand their knowledge and create lasting relationships with their teachers and classmates- truly a foundation for life. Our program places emphasis on the developmental needs of these younger children, such as their strong desire to be independent, their innate, curious nature and need for social interactions. In a Montessori Toddler environment, we provide a true sense of community and belonging.

Curriculum Areas include:

  • Practical Life activities build confidence and independence through the development of self-care skills, concentration, coordination, fine motor, and a sense of order—all for later learning.
  • Sensorial, hands-on materials that develop the senses initiate critical thinking skills, preparing students for future challenges in mathematics, science, and language.
  • Language nurtures a love of language with manipulatives that build a deep understanding of the fundamental components of reading/writing. The environment is infused with books and a spirit of individual expression.
  • Arts & Activities including Music, Art, Movement, enrich each learning environment with vibrancy and celebrate the diversity of ways people contribute to the world.

Toileting

At MCH, we consider toileting to be more in-depth than just training, because your child is building confidence, independence and awareness of their own body. While it looks different for each child, our goal is to help each child become toilet independent through our toddler program.

We approach toileting the same way we approach everything else: holistically, with respect for the whole child, clear routines and partnership with each family. By working with your family throughout the toileting journey, our belief is that the process is calmer, more consistent and therefore, an empowering experience for your child.

Essentially, we consider the toileting journey to be a fundamental part of our toddler curriculum. We work closely with each family to partner with them throughout the process. Children join our toddler program at different stages of their toileting journey- some may start our program wearing a pull-up, either throughout the day or for nap time, and some toddlers are starting to transition to underwear. Not every child is ready at the same time, and we help families look for signs their child may be ready to start the toileting journey.

*Children do need to be toilet independent to join our Primary program, which is for the next age group, 3-6 year olds.
